As we are back from Photonics West 2008, we’re managing to maintain contact with all great people we’ve met there, whatever we shared with them the floor of the Canadian Photonic Consortium booth (by the way, our thanks to Sylvie Couture and Sadiq Hasnain!), we met during the exhibit or we met during face-to-face meeting or networking events organized by both Canada and Quebec. Overall, we had great fun sharing our booth with Mireille Gourde (Thomas, Mireille and myself at Photonics West 2008) from the Vice-rectorat à la recherche et la création of Université Laval – (see their available technologies).
Please note that we also shared the booth space with École Polytechnique de Montréal, one of Univalor’s supporting institution, and we presented many photonics’ related technology from this institution.
Credits for the pictures are to Marouchska Brisebois (Marouchska and myself at Photonics West 2008) from the Canadian Institute for Innovations in Photonics (CIPI), an interesting organization for connecting industry to technology in Canada in the field of Photonics. Whatever you are a researcher or a company, CIPI can certainly help you! I hope Robert Corriveau, CIPI’s President, will not blame me for saying that we’re working on ways to enable these match-making opportunities by providing seamless information about technologies available from canadian institutions!
So now, it’s time to prepare Photonics West 2009, and gather more institutions and their technology transfer affiliates! If you are interested, please contact me: didier.leconte@univalor.ca

Today was our first day of exhibition at Photonics West 2008.
We discovered the Canadian Pavillon where we share a booth with Mireille from université Laval. We started to present Univalor and Ecole Polytechnique de Montréal to industrials, researchers and photonics professionals. We also met great people and shared with them our experience in innovations and technology management. All of them are very interested in learning more about research activities taking place in Montréal and in the tech transfer process.
That’s definitively the place to be to meet the Photonics World.
This week, Thomas and I are in the Silicon Valley, attending & exhibiting at Photonics West 2008 and touring companies arround for partnership opportunities. During the last years, we’ve received quite an important amount of technologies related to photonics, enough to consider being an exhibitor for the second year as a part of the Canadian Photonic Consortium (a very nice opportunity of exhibiting in such a great conference) in partnership with Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal and Universite Laval. First of all, it’s a unique opportunity to connect with colleagues from Quebec Province and Canada. Second, this is a good opportunity to connect with companies in search for growth or leadership through technology advantage. But overall, this is a great opportunity to make new friends, revisit the world and dream about its future. It is not limited to people we got used to meet. It is true also for people we just meet during a breakfast (Hi Gary!) or during a face-to-face meeting with a guy we’re in contact with a couple of years ago (Hi VK!). It’s also true for people willing to open their door and spend time to get to know each others. The take-away: “when we take the time, people take the time as weel”. We wish you welll during this Photonics’ week! If you are in San Jose, come to us at Booth6098. If you were not able to attend please feel free to contact us.
