Multi-kW Fiber Amplifier

Looking for a new fiber amplifier? Prof. Raman Kashyap has your solution!

Raman is a “serial inventor”; he has almost 15 active projects at Univalor and I’ve stopped to count how many patents…You probably remember his photocello? It was recently presented, in French, in the business Quebecer newspaper “Les Affaires”. Prof. Kashyap is a specialist of advanced photonics and optoelectronics systems and has recently thought a new scheme which permits to considerably increase the output power of a fiber amplifier. And it works; simulation results have demonstrated that it can reach quite easily multi-kW.

The secret? The amplification takes place in the doped fiber cladding and not in the core like in usual systems.

This invention is now protected with an US provisional patent application and we’re currently seeking partners to finish its development and commercialize it.

World Best Technologies Showcase

After Photonics West and AUTM, we’ll be featuring 2 other technologies at the WBT showcase (Arlington (TX), March 26 and 27).

1 – Metamaterial Smart Antenna for MIMO
We’ll be presenting an adaptive antenna for MIMO developed at Ecole Polytechnique by Prof. Christophe Caloz and his team. Based on the non-usual properties of metamaterials, this innovation discloses a novel method of dynamically optimizing in real-time wireless communications.
Van-Hoang Nguyen, will be presenting this project.

2 – Now you can build Direct Freeform 3D Microstructures
We’ll be also featuring a new method of direct writing to build 3D microstructures.
Developed at Ecole Polytechnique and INRS, it offers to solution to build in real time and in the ambiant condition complex microstructures.
Louis Lebel Laberge will be presenting the project and will show a video of the process
